Last comp of the year and our first time at Sayville...
Very long drive, we stay at a hotel on the way there. Get in and set up. The sky opens up around 10pm and it rains. I would expect nothing else from the last comp of the year but WOW. Many of the vendors lost canapies and the power was sketchy. We hold in there well and the cook goes good, the rain doesn't bother the Backwods at all. Rain ends late in the night and we are left with a mess, not as bad as our neighbors though (see mud pit below). we get calls in pork and brisket and 5th overall, great end to the year. The chicken is really getting close 19th is great for us and the ribs were 11th almost made a call! We also oversaw the awarding of the ESBC trophy to Smoke on Wheels, couldn't have a better team win!
Really a great year for, we moved from a double digit (in the teens) team to a solid top ten competitor. Watch out for Good Smoke in 2010!
